"I do not want power. I do not want to hurt anyone. I just wanted everyone to have hope... But... I cannot take this any longer. I just want to see my wife. I just want to see my child. Please... Young one... This war has gone on long enough. You have the power... Take my soul, and leave this cursed place..."

Asgore allowing the human to kill him.

Asgore Dreemurr is the secondary antagonist of the 2015 RPG game Undertale. Although he is built up to be the main antagonist, he is very kind and cheerful while being a very regretful king who feels he must keep his promise to his people.

Villainous History:[]

Asgore lost his son who was attacked by other humans and adoptive human Chara. After his fateful loss, he has made. the promised to have any human that gets to the Underground murdered. Asgore has ordered every of the Underground Monsters to capture any humans that fall from the Underground only to murder the human and harvest their soul. He would face the only human left being the eighth human soul left to fall down the Underground.

Neutral Route[]

Depending on how the narrative throughout the routes he may spare the human or even choose to sacrafise his soul begging the human to kill human. If the player chooses to kill him he would smile as he is defeated while having his soul destroyed and shattered by Flowey through his friendly pellets, this merely happens either way if Asgore is spared by the human.

Post-humous impact[]

Asgore is dead and depending on the version a character who is at least alive or spared or a friend of the human has a role in the Underground either having full control over it or some part of it depending on the ending which could variate through different ways throughout the lasting posthumous affect from the death of Asgore Dreemurr after he is defeated. Many of the Underground characters either actively blaming the human for Asgore's death or having conflicting views believing that the human had to do what they had to do to survive as Undyne puts it.

Almost Genocide Route[]

If the human stops the Genocide Route, Sans calls the human and talks about the human's actions and then giving the phone to Alphys. Alphys talks about evacuating the Underground Monsters to the True Lab likely with the Amalgamation Subjects responsible for the Determination testing Alphys has had experimented on the Underground Monsters. Alphys may end up getting on the call saying that she should have killed the human when she would have had the chance as soon as she ends the call when Sans gave the phone to her.

Pacifist Route[]

If the Neutral Route is done along with the additonal things you need to do for the Neutral Route, Asgore will try to destroy the Mercy Route button only to be attacked by Toriel similar to when Flowey tries to attack the human. Eventually, Asgore becomes less of a threat wtih Flowey being the over-arching antagonist revealing themselves to be Asriel Dreemurr the Prince of the Dreemurr Royalty Family. Another thing worth noting is that Asgore is Brainwashed/Possessed by Asriel Dreemurr's powers with all of the soul as Asriel is God of Hyperdeath. Eventually after the human saves Asriel Dreemurr, Asriel gets back the souls and Asriel gets back the souls and Asgore chooses to try to make amends with humanity.

Genocidal Route[]

He is much more as an anti-villain at the point. He doesn't choose to want to kill the human but try to talk and reason with the human which leads to him dying tragically while being killed by Flowey The Flower.

Why Did He Redeem Himself?[]

Neutral Route[]

If this route is done, Asgore merely sacrifices himself for the freedom of the Underground Monsters to see the Overworld. Not to mention he wanted to work with the Underground Monsters to break the barrier for his people that pronounces him as King.

Pacifist Route[]
  • He redeemed himself after the many others like Toriel pointed out how wrong Asgore's decision making was. He decided to make peace with humanity as he states throughout the ending of the Pacifist Route.
Genocide Route[]

Not much is shown with his redemptive change. However he is rather shocked and surprised. He tries to reason with the human and didn't mean any harm as much and wanted to simply talk only to be tragically killed by the human and Flowey as contrast to the Neutral Route would have depended highly on the player's choices with whether or not the human chooses to spare Asgore only for Flowey to kill Asgore or kill Asgore with Flowey shattering Asgore's soul either way. The Genocide Route however shows that he was killed either way and died from the human being so merciful as his only resort to not have his life nor anyone else's life put at risk anywhat more than it was.
